Fueling up on liquids before the trick-or-treating rounds through the neighborhood is a vital part to the enjoyment of the night but remember, there is excitement in the air, sugar in the veins and this creates a simple formula called “spills are going to happen”. Don’t deprive your guests and family of liquids out of fear, know that there are some quick and easy steps to help avoid the dreaded carpet stain.

Step 1: Grab a towel and soak up as much of the liquid as possible! Make sure not to rub, only blot!

Step 2: Make sure all the liquids are blotted before adding a stain remover.

Step 3: Follow the instructions on your stain remover packaging.

Step 4: Refill the cup of whoever spilled and pour yourself another one.

Fake Blood

Whether you’re a vampire or zombie or shark attack victim this halloween, fake blood is a very important addition to your costume. It is inevitable that the tube will fall on the ground or it will get onto the bottom of bare feet and will be tracked around the house.

Step 1: Start by blotting as much of the fake blood up as possible. Remember not to rub or press into the carpet too firmly. If you don’t notice the spot until after it has dried up, try to scrape as much away with your nails or a putty knife (depending on the size of the area).

Step 2: Soak the stain in club soda and finish it off by adding a layer of salt.

Step 3: Wait until the area is dry (about one day) and vacuum it up the next day.

Gum

Someone may have finally reached the center of that bubble gum sucker, but that could quickly become a disaster for you and your carpet. Luckily, removing it from your soft flooring can be painless with just a few supplies from the kitchen.

Step 1: Take a deep breath and grab a couple of ice cubes from the freezer.

Step 2: Place the ice cubes on the spot of gum and hold them there until it becomes brittle. Now you will be able to scrape away some of the gum. Repeat until most of the large pieces are gone.

Step 3: Use a spot remover.
